Class Class: Writing Interactive Dialogue For Narrative Games

A hands-on writing class designed to help students improve their dialogue-writing skills and learn how to make dialogues interactive.

Class Description

A key component in narrative based games is the ability to engage characters in dialogues, which in some cases can alter the course of the story. Too often, however, dialogue in games is overlooked in favor of other elements. This writing workshop will cover the basics of writing believable dialogue, examine how to best deliver exposition and information in a natural way, and designing situations where dialogue can increase player interactivity. All attendees will be asked to complete several writing exercises, so willingness to participate and have your work read aloud is required!

Featured Topics

  • How to keep players engaged by making dialogues interactive.

  • Delivering information and exposition in a natural and believable way.

  • Examining characters and their traits to determine how best to write their dialogues.
